The role student housing plays in the professional and personal growth of future generations

“Working with young people is great, but working for young people is even more exciting”

Young people represent the future, and it is fundamental to embrace both their needs and new ideas, in order to shape environments that help them grow.

A strong and solid community, where one shares common attitudes, interests and goals is one of the primary elements for students and young professionals traveling around the world for study or work. This why student housing property players’ main objective is to provide students, professionals, and digital nomads from all over the world with an environment that can help them to achieve their goals and dreams.

In CX we aim to create campuses that are not just places to stay, but spots where our young residents can achieve their goals and feed their minds by interacting with each other, experiencing the amazing journey from who they are to who they want to be. With this in mind, the hybrid hospitality concept can offer young people access to a multitude of services, specifically designed to stimulate personal and professional growth.

Student accommodation should break all the conventions, and offer a new format of hospitality through a mix of long stay and short stay. Rooms should be designed for experience and privacy, every common area must be practical, social and contemporary, from the common kitchen to the game room, from the gym to the study rooms, form the laundry room to the rooftop terraces. The approach here is to avoid hermetic dormitory structures, and creating connected spaces that facilitate a variety of interactions between the student and young professional community. This can be the small contribution of our industry to the rise of a healthy society, consistent of passionate, enthusiastic, well prepared and professional human beings.

This new model of campus development obviously must integrate the digital and technological evolution.  Properties must be constantly upgraded with the latest in technology, based on the quickly evolving demands of students. The application of new technologies will enable students to deliver more value in their personal academic journey, and holistically add to their quality of life.  In order to stimulate the generations of tomorrow, it is fundamental to stay responsive to new needs and adjust our spaces in a purposeful way.

Last but not least, the present and the future of student housing must be sustainable. With today’s increased interest in sustainability and circular economy, co-living spaces are part of tacking the European housing crisis.  Sharing communal spaces, or choosing recycled materials, embracing community impact initiatives, or using renewable energy can all contribute to saving scarce resources.

Student accommodation providers should take on the social responsibility of sustainability and one of the biggest ways to reduce environmental impact in student accommodation is through awareness. Making residents aware of the sustainability of the building they are living in, will encourage sustainable behavior. What best practices can we share?
