We are delighted to open 2024’s regional Student Living event calendar in the Nordics for an online event on Thursday the 16th of May. The session, which includes data insights from the Head of European Living Sectors from our partners at Knight Frank, and 4 representatives from the Student Housing sector in the Nordics joining a panel discussion, looks to explore the challenges and opportunities facing stakeholders involved in the delivery of student housing across the region.
About the Event
With unprecedented demand from an increasing number of domestic and international applicants, the Nordics continues to attract a growing student population. With this growth comes an increased reliance on a range of other student facing facilities and the supply of housing is rightly considered the 2nd most important factor in student choice in the Nordics and throughout Europe following university, and academic course selection.
We envisage tackling the challenges head-on in our session, exploring the macro factors at play such as material costs inhibiting construction of affordable housing throughout the region and the increasingly important issue of wellbeing in the sector.
We will analyse if the shortage of appropriate housing is impacting upon student recruitment in the region and what the longer-term effects of this situation may mean for student recruitment and retention.
As ever, what makes our events work is the participation of our attendees and the questions they pose the panellists and the Class Foundation more generally. We encourage polite debate and hope to propel some collaboration with key stakeholders to take steps to correct the current imbalance.

Smart Living Community Awards
This year, we are introducing the Smart Living Community Awards for the first time, recognising collaboration, leadership, and demonstrable ESG impact across the student living ecosystem.
The awards span four categories: Smart Cross-Sector Collaboration, Smart Sustainability Initiatives, Smart Social Impact Initiatives, and Smart Leader of the Year.
How do the community awards work and why should you apply?
What sets these awards apart from others is their live presentation and voting format. Shortlisted nominees will present their initiatives directly to an audience of leading investors and operators from across the European PBSA sector.
Live Presentation & Real-Time Voting: Finalists pitch on stage, with attending investors and operators voting live for the initiatives that demonstrate the strongest sector impact.
Transparent Evaluation: Attendees of the event will have access to detailed information about each shortlisted initiative, ensuring credibility and recognition based on measurable impact.
Sector Visibility: Shortlisted initiatives will be featured in article format on the Smart Student Living webpage and promoted across social media prior to the Summit.
